NUS President visits MBI

NUS President Tan Chorh Chuan spent an afternoon at MBI touring the labs, meeting the staff and hearing all about MBI’s latest achievements. Prof Tan’s last visit to MBI was upon its inception four years ago. Since that time MBI has recruited 200 staff, opened new labs on Level 9, launched a state-of-the-art micro- and nano-fabrication core and illustrated its research excellence through publishing numerous papers in noted journals such as The EMBO Journal, Science and Nature.

The Tour

On arrival Prof Tan was greeted and briefed by MBI’s Director, Prof Michael Sheetz, Co-Director Prof Paul Matsudaira, Deputy Director A/Prof GV Shivashankar and Senior Advisor and Emeritis Professor, Prof Hew Choy Leong. The afternoon continued with a tour of MBI’s labs where Prof Tan had the chance to speak with Facility Managers heading up the Labs and Microscopy and Computational Cores. The tour concluded with a reception where all MBI staff and students were invited to meet Prof Tan.

Staff at MBI appreciated the opportunity to meet with Prof Tan and share their thoughts and ideas on furthering the field of mechanobiology.
