The Lisa Tucker-Kellogg Group is a computational biology modelling group, bridging between wet-lab biological experiments and dry-lab computational modelling. We study how individual protein-level events combine to achieve biological functions for mechanical signalling, redox regulation of apoptosis/survival decisions, and injury response. The development (or healing) of fibrotic disease is a key context for us to study the convergence of injury response and mechanical signalling.
Our lab uses cell culture experiments and a variety of computational modeling tools to study the mechanobiology and signaling of liver fibrosis. Liver fibrosis is a common disorder with increasing prevalence due to aging, hepatitis, alcohol consumption, and metabolic diseases. At a broad level, fibrotic diseases can be understood as over-active “wound healing” responses, caused by recurring injuries or chronic inflammation. At the same time, fibrosis is inherently a mechanical disease in which excessive accumulation of extra-cellular matrix (ECM) proteins disrupts normal tissue function and normal blood flow. About the Computational & Systems Biology Programme within the Singapore-MIT Alliance (SMA)
A partnership between MIT’s CSBi program and the biology, bioengineering, and biotechnology programs at NUS, NTU, and the A*STAR research institutes, the program focuses on the development of advanced technologies in biological probes, imaging, and computational biology and the application of these technologies to problems in tissue biology, including stem cell differentiation, tissue morphogenesis, infectious disease models, and tissue physiology.
